Of course, realism has not disappeared from art. Modern realism is often called photorealism or hyperrealism. However, today photorealistic art is a somewhat isolated genre. Here is an example from George Bell. I always show his images of marbles to my rendering class as an example of sphere tracing. Although my students and I appreciate the optical complexity of the painting, most serious art critics are not so impressed.
