Welcome to UPA Frisbee 2004!

Check out "HOW_TO_INSTALL.txt" to find out how to install the game (it's pretty easy) and how to change the video resolution to best fit your screen.
Check out "ABOUT_THE_GAME.txt" for a more thorough description of the game itself.

Your basic goal in this game is to throw and catch the frisbee up the field to the enzone for a score, all the while preventing your opponent from doing the same. You must throw before the 10-second "stall count" is up.

Here are the controls for the game (" a " means press the 'a' key)...

" ESCAPE " - quit the game

There are three play modes to chose from...
" 1 " - Normal mode (human vs. computer)
" 2 " - AI mode (computer vs. computer)
" 3 " - Throwing practice mode

As a beginner, you may wish to press '2' and watch the computer play a few points to get a feel for the game, then press '3' to get used to throwing and catching.

On offense, you control both of your players (the thrower and the receiver). On defense, you control just one of your players.

As a thrower, all controls are performed with the mouse. Move the mouse left and right to turn the thrower, and move the mouse up and down to control the pitch of the throw (how high or low it goes). Once you've decided on the thrower's orientation, you must decide which throw you wish to use. Press and hold the left mouse button to begin a backhand throw, or press and hold the right mouse button to begin a forehand (flick) throw. Whichever throw you select, the throw meter at the bottom-right of the screen will let you fine-tune your throw. With the throw button still held, drag the mouse up and down to control the distance of the throw, and left and right to control the angle of the throw. When you are satisfied, release the mouse button and the throw is performed. If you wish to cancel a throw, click the other mouse button.

Offensive receivers and defensive players have the same movement controls...
" e " - Move forwards
" d " - Pivot and turn the other direction
" s " - Turn left
" f " - Turn right
" a " - Strafe left
" g " - Strafe right
" r " - Layout!!
" SPACE " - Jump

Or press "t" to switch player control modes. The above controls refer to "Relative" mode (the default). In "Absolute" mode, the keys "e", "d", "s", and "f" move the player forwards, backwards, left, and right regardless of the direction the player is currently facing.

On defense...
" TAB " - Switch to other defender
" v " - Say "I got him" when on D (your teammate will guard the other player),
or "I got it" when about to pick up the disk (your teammate will go upfield)

That's it for actual gameplay. Now for the bells and whistles...

It seems like a lot to remember, but after playing a few points, you'll quickly get used to the player controls. We tried to make them as intuitive as possible while retaining the level of control necessary for an accurate ultimate simulation.
